Google Updated Page Rank - What Does It Mean.
I was comparing my page rank and inbound links this morning and noticed that nearly all of my younger sites are now a page rank of 1, where as prior to this week, all but one of my newly created sites where unranked. Google has a tendency to update PR towards the beginning of the month.
The criteria used in Google’s ranking scale is something that constantly adjusts based on environmental factors. I try not to pay too much attention to the ranking, however I do use it to benchmark myself against my perceived competitors. If I stay the same and they go up, I know that something might be off with my site.
The concept is similar to how an industry analysis in the stock market can tell you if your desired stock is doing good or bad in regards to the industry.
When there are noticeable changes, I will compare the two sites using Yahoo’s site explorer. Which gives me a quick run through about the number of pages indexed as well as the number of inlinks( also commonly known as backlinks).
I used to be a big fan of using Google for that analysis but lately they aren’t returning very many, if any backlinks. Try the search “link:www.yoursite.com” in both Yahoo and Google an compare your results.
